The
extraordinary China Ranch Oasis is host to our inn. This verdant gem encircled
by the waterless mountains and valleys of the Amargosa Desert served as respite
to ancient men and women for thousands of years. It has been the documented
home to some daring folks starting with Ah Foo, the "Chinaman," who
mysteriously disappeared in the 1880's. Near to the once-bustling Old Spanish
Trail, it is steeped in the thrilling history of the audacious American old
west. A brief expedition to an abandoned miners' cemetery, stamp mill, and assay
house touches a deep-rooted personal bond with our adventurous forbears and
the land that mesmerized them. Turn of the century mines of lead, silver, gold,
talc, iron and gypsum, now silent, stand as sentinels to an epoch of jackass
prospectors, pioneering women, railroad tycoons and borax barons. Two historic
buildings exist on this 218-acre ranch, one of which is home to our Ranch House
Inn Bed and Breakfast.
